Department of Environmental health Technology offers courses leading to:
Certificate in Environmental Health Assistant
Duration - 2 years
Ordinary National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology
Duration - 3 years
Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology
Duration - 4 years
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

The National Diploma/Higher national Diploma programme in Environmental Health
Technology is designed to produce Environmental Health Personnel who will be able to
organize and ensure sanity and health environments in homes, communities and work
places e.t.c.
b. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:-
The minimum entry requirement into the National Diploma in Environmental Health
Technology Programme is Five (5) credit passes in the West African School Certificate
(S.S.C.E.) or General Certificate in Education (G.C.E.) ordinary level at not more than two
(2) sittings. The subjects must include English language, Biology/Health science,
chemistry and any two (2) from the following:
i. Geography, Economics, Food and Nutrition, Accounts, Commerce, Physics, Technical Drawing
ii. A pass in mathematics is compulsory.
c. CURRICULUM
The curriculum of all N.D and H.N.D programmes cons
ists of four main components. These are:
a. General studies/Education b. Foundation courses c. Professional course
d. Supervised Industrial work Experience scheme (SIWES)
NOTE:
Supervised Industrial work Experience scheme (S .I.W. E. S.) shall be taken
during the long vacation following the end of the second semester of the first year, of both
ND/HND Programme
Candidates who have successfully completed the West African Health Board have
recognized Pre-National Diploma (Science and Technology) course may be admitted into the programme such candidates must have passed at credit level: Biology/Health science,
Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English language in the course.
d. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE:
The structure of the N.D. programme consists of four semesters of classroom, laboratory
and workshop activities in the school and a semester (3-4months) (S I W E S) in a year of
the programme
e. H N D PROGRAMME: The structure H.N.D programme is similar to that of
N.D; there shall also be (S I W E S) at
the end of each programme.
f. CONDITIONS FOR AWARD OF THE PRE-ND/HND CERT:-
(W A H E B) shall award the diplomas to candidates who successfully completed the
programme after diploma project and the supervised industrial work experience. Diploma
shall be awarded based on the following classification.
GRADE G.P.A
Distinction 3.50 – 4.00
Upper Credit 3.00 - 3.49
Lower Credit 2.50 – 2.99
Pass 2.00 – 2.49
g. GUILDLINES ON SIWES PROGRAMME (S. I. W. E. S.)
(S. I. W. E. S.) Shall be taken during the long vac
ation following the end of second

i. Evaluation of students during the (S. I. W. E. S.)
ii. Grading of (S. I. W. E. S.)

iv. SIWES as a component of the curriculum.
h. EVALUATIN OF STUDENTS DURING THE (S.I.W.E.S.)
In the evaluation of student, cognizance should be
taken of the following items: a. Punctuality
b. Attendance
c. General attitude to work
d. Respect for authorities
e. Interest in field/Technical area.
f. Technical competence as a potential Technician in his/her field.
EVVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN COURSE (E.V.T.)
A. GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF DIPLOMA AND CERTIFICATE P
ROGRAMMES.
The Diploma and Certificate programme for junior le
vel environmental health personnel
are designed to produce Environmental Health Technicians(E.V.T.) and Environmental
Health Assistants (E.H.A.) who will be able to assist Environmental Health Technologists
and officers In ensuring clean sanity environment in homes, communities and work places.
STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMMES The Diploma certificate course for E.T.V. is terminal at the 3 years level. The Diploma Certificate course for (E.T.V.) is structured to last for three years (six semesters). This incorporates two to four months of supervised field practical skills.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For a candidate to be admitted into training as an
Environmental Health Technician, the candidate must obtain 3 credits in Biology/Health science, and any two other relevant subjects. While a pass in English Language, Chemistry and Mathematics will be an added advantage. All these should be obtained at least not more than 2 sittings. While grade ll
Teachers certificate is acceptable, but only the certificate should be presented and not
statement of result.
THE CURRICULUM
The curriculum for Environmental Health Technician Course is the same as that of
Environmental Health Technology above (E.H.T.)
THE CRRICULUM STRUCTURE
The structure of the (E.V.T.) programme consist of six semesters of which 2 semesters
must be spent in practical field experiences as provided for in the curriculum table.
CONDITIONS FOR THE AWARD OF (E.V.T.) DIPLOMA CERTIFICATE
Before a candidate can be awarded a certificate our Environmental Health Technician
(E.V.T.) The candidate must pass all the nine courses in the 3rd year 2nd semester. In addition to the above the same conditions of the award of (E.V.T.) certificate must applied.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANT COURSE (E.H.A.)
This is a certificate course on (E.H.A.)
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE (E.H.A.)
The Environmental Health Assistant Programme is designed to produce Technologist,officers and the organization as whole in ensuring clean sanity environment in homes, communities and work places.
DURATION OF THREE COURSES
Environmental Health Assistant (E.H.A.) training isa two years (2 years) programme. This cadre constitutes the lowest cadre of the Environme
ntal Health Profession i.e. next to the Technician and Technologist.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Every candidate prior to commencing the training as Environmental Health Assistant must produce evidence of possessing the following qualification: Four (4) passes in G.C.E,
SSCE, NECO, Grade ll or NABTEC in one science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Health
science, Nutrition, Physics, General science or Integrated science) and any other three (3)
subjects a pass in English would be an added advantage.
